I wanted to have my own site.
I was beyond excited, bouncing with every step as I started to
put the pieces together. I started by choosing a domain name for
my first site. After thinking and searching, I finally found a
name to fit my site idea perfectly. I was thrilled.
Then, I started to look for someone to host the site. I planned.
I researched.
Honestly, I didn't even really know how a hosting account worked
when I started, but I soaked up every drop of information I
could until I found an affordable and reliable hosting option.
For the first time in a long time, I was excited--I mean truly
EXCITED--about my future.
I pulled out my beat up old debit card, took a deep breath,
crossed my fingers, and set up my account.
Not long after I placed my order, I received a phone call. My
card? Declined.
For a moment, all of the enthusiasm and excitement sustaining me
disappeared.
There I was--an under-educated young mother-to-be with nothing
to my name but a pie-in-the-sky idea, unable to wring a few
lousy bucks out my only bank card. Things were black again.
Fortunately, the feeling didn't last.
For some reason, I knew I was on the right track. After a few
days of back-and-forth, I was able to resolve the situation with
my card. I was the owner of my own domain and I had paid my
hosting bill. I started working.
I built, adjusted, edited, organized, and coded my new site for
weeks on end. I wasn't yet convinced I was going to make a
profit. On some level, it didn't even matter. I KNEW I was
moving in the right direction.
One afternoon, out of what was either sheer luck or destiny, I
decided to put a Google Adsense ad on my site. About two hours
later, I checked my account. Id made ten dollars. I know that
doesn't sound like a lot, but it had a profound impact on me.
My mind was reeling. This REALLY could be the answer!
Fast Forward to now...
I have been online for over 7 years now,
learning and devouring every bit of information I can get my
hands on. I'll tell ya, getting information these days, is not
as easy as it was when I began my online career. Now, you are
